CP Journal – January Recap

Thank you to everyone for the support at the start of 2016.  We often get asked to share some of our experiences from time to time and thought it would be helpful if we compiled some results from January as a way of saying thank you to those that helped us have a great month and also to share some of our experiences with all of you.

Left of Bang Update:

The holiday season brought added attention to the book, “Left of Bang”.  In the month of January, Amazon received 25 reviews of the book.  Thank you to everyone who has let us know they have read the book and for those that have taken the time to review it for others.  We appreciate your support.  Here are a couple of recent excerpts from Amazon reviewers:

“Good book, very interesting. A lot of stuff in it is common sense but it did make me more aware of my surroundings. Highly recommended!” -Verified Purchaser

“Changes your view of the world. All about situational awareness and picking up on potential threats. Awareness is the first step in being your own security.” -Verified Purchaser

“I was introduced to this book… and once I started reading it I was hooked. So much of this book is about communication – this is information that we ALL can use – to diffuse an angry customer, a mad spouse, or an irrational child!  Learn the concepts here – well worth the read.” -Verified Purchaser

You can check out more of the recent reviews by visiting Amazon directly.

CP Journal in the News:

As an organization, we were highlighted on a few websites that are viewed as valuable resources for many in our core client markets.

On January 15th, Tim Barfield wrote about The CP Journal on the website – PoliceOne.com.  You can read the profile here.  Chief Barfield offers five takeaways for police officers to help prevent incidents from spiraling out of control.  A huge thank you to Chief Barfield and to PoliceOne for recognizing The CP Journal and the work that we are doing.

Also in January, Drew Long and his website, FierceGentleman.com, profiled CP Journal Co-Founder, Patrick Van Horne.  You can find the podcast audio and transcript here. The interview covers the overview of the core concepts that we teach and how they can broadly apply to everyone.  The key elements of setting a baseline and recognizing anomalies are discussed in depth.

We were also highlighted in a recent blog post called – “Continuing Education for Vagabonds: Top 10 Online Course to Take”.  You can check out the other courses that are referenced by following this link.

While the Chicago WINx event officially took place at the tail end of 2015, some of the speaker videos have recently been made available in January.  Patrick Van Horne’s talk on how the law enforcement community can take a proactive approach to policing using the skills and concepts that we teach can now be viewed directly on their site here.  A huge thank you to everyone who helped make WINxChicago possible and for having us as a part of it.

While we realize we can’t always recognize everyone that has sent us notes in our e-mail (training@cp-journal.com) and on our twitter feed, we do want to take this time to thank everyone that has recognized us and the work that we are doing.

CP Journal Training

While we don’t always know where our online clients officially choose to train with us, we feel confident sharing that in the month of January we had the opportunity to train law enforcement officers, private security professionals, members of our military, and the general public based in the following states and countries either through in-person training or in our online learning environment:

  • California
  • New York
  • New Jersey
  • Pennsylvania
  • Texas
  • Ohio
  • Illinois
  • Norway
  • South Africa

We also got several great end of course evaluations on our online learning programs.  One recent evaluation left us these words: “Outstanding information, simple layout and easy to follow instruction, good study tools.”.  We also always get great feedback on how to make our online courses better.  One of the consistent themes this month has been to incorporate more video examples into our courses, which we are working on and will implement as soon as possible.

CP Journal – On the Road

In the month of January we were on the road a bit to start the year.  While we are away we try to stay fairly active on our Instagram account.   Here are some of the spots we had the chance to visit in January:

  • Irvine, California
  • Orlando, FL
  • New York, NY
  • Raleigh, NC

Thank you to everyone who helped make a successful January possible for us and please never hesitate to contact us directly if there is ever anything else we can be doing to better support you.
