Our Case Studies
Every plan, exercise, training program, and project we deliver begins with a simple goal: to help organizations move left of bang—to build the foresight, readiness, and operational capability needed to manage the next disruption or attack before it arrives.
These case studies highlight how that principle takes shape in practice, with each one documenting a different challenge. By sharing these stories, our aim isn’t just to showcase outcomes, but to illustrate the processes, decisions, and lessons that others can apply to their own preparedness efforts.
Together, they reflect a consistent approach: grounded in education, shaped by collaboration, and focused on results that make communities and organizations more prepared for an uncertain future.
The Pikes Peak Regional Office of Emergency Management, which serves Colorado Springs and El Paso County, CO, aimed to improve its ability to quickly evacuate large parts of the community in the event of a fast-moving, wind-driven fire impacting their built environment.
At the end of the project, The CP Journal delivered an Advanced Evacuation Plan that applied the findings of AI-powered evacuation modeling tools and the lessons learned from four major wind-driven fires in the United States, and established observable Watch Points and Action Points to allow the region to respond to dangerous conditions proactively.
Inspectors and investigators from the Colorado Department of Agriculture (CDA) participated in The CP Journal’s Tactical Analysis Course, equipping them with the skills and context to approach their work more confidently, with greater situational awareness and readiness.
Delivered in a hybrid format: CDA staff completed the video-based training and then gathered for group discussions led by an agency leader. These sessions allowed inspectors to ask questions, connect the material directly to their fieldwork, and share examples of how they could apply the lessons during inspections and investigations.
The problem: a large city/county Office of Emergency Management needed a way to select preparedness projects that would enhance its ability to respond to and recover from disasters, with a new leadership team, while ensuring staff remained ready for Emergency Operations Center (EOC) activations.
Following a series of structured workshops, The CP Journal delivered a Preparedness Roadmap focused on the organization’s needs for the coming year, positioning it for growth and success.
Since The CP Journal launched the Tactical Analysis Online Course in 2013, providing a video-based course that brings the behaviors written about in Left of Bang to the screen, we have had thousands of professionals complete the course.
